Next International WaTERS Workshop to be hosted by Campus@Sea in the Netherland!
We are proud to announce that the next International WaTERS workshop will take place at Campus@Sea in Scheveningen, The Netherlands – a recognition of the strong role our region plays in shaping the future of offshore renewables.
Last Friday, Campus@Sea joined the International WaTERS workshop on Madeira, held ahead of the European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference (EWTEC). The WaTERS initiative is a key global platform where offshore test centres exchange experiences, align on challenges, and explore opportunities to accelerate marine energy development.
Representing Campus@Sea, Lina Laar pitched the Maritime Testing Ground and the Offshore Test Site, located off the coast of Scheveningen. This unique site enables testing of innovative offshore renewable technologies in real-sea conditions, close to the logistics and expertise of The Hague’s port.
The workshop gathered 23 delegates from 18 organisations worldwide, including test facilities from the UK, Canada, Korea, Spain, and the USA. Together, they shared updates, challenges, and visions for advancing offshore renewa solutions.
Through the Offshore Proof project, Campus@Sea and partners are working towards a network of accredited Renewable Energy (Offshore) Test Laboratories (RETLS) under IECRE protocols. This will enable comparable, industry-recognised results across borders – a crucial step for developers, investors, and regulators.
The discussions on Madeira highlighted both the technical progress being made and the common hurdles test sites face, such as licensing, regulatory frameworks, and grid connection – issues that Campus@Sea is also addressing as we further develop the Scheveningen test zone.
⚓ We look forward to welcoming the international WaTERS community to Scheveningen next year.
